His History
The Stratus convertible has the distinction of being much longer than the sedan of the same name, a peculiarity that it owes to the use of an entirely different platform, derived from a coupe reserved for the North American market. It’s not easy to find a place in town and turn around due to the large turning circle. This King Size size guarantees very good roominess for the four occupants and a decent boot capacity.
Uneven finish
Buy a luxury convertible at half the price The flattering appearance presentation hides a very uneven finish. The resulting small noise from the furniture is numerous, nevertheless diminished from the start of the 97 vintage. We can also blame the rigidity of the body. Superior to that of the old Le Baron cabrio, it can still be improved, as can also be seen from the slight shaking of the large windshield. This protects the four occupants from turbulence better than average; unfortunately no backwater net is available when traveling - quickly - with two people, in the open. This oversight aside, the LX V6’s equipment is bloated, with metallic paint as the only option. The basic 2-liter LE version does without leather, but already has air conditioning, reinforced with a CD charger and the on-board computer at the start of 99. The soft top, electric on both versions, barely doubled with a simple headliner, less attenuates wind noise than in the other models gathered here, especially as the airtightness of the window seals deteriorates with age. The vinyl top of the 2-liter version is much more fragile than that of the V6 - made of fabric, as with all the convertibles tested in this case. Another reason for choosing h5r the flexible V6 2.5 of 163 hp from Mitsubishi, which offers good mechanical approval associated with a 4-speed automatic gearbox, since the summer of 1996 it has benefited from a sequential control in the manner of the Tiptronic Porsche called here autostick. This manual function, offered by Chrysler before many other brands, is for some the gadget, but is useful in the mountains. In the laces, this great traction offers a healthy handling, if not sporty. Good behavior elsewhere as well, including heading on the motorway. The suspensions have little to do with those of the Americans of yesteryear. Well cushioned despite some trepidation on uneven roads, the Stratus provides decent comfort, refined during restyling. Correct reliability and average aging of the passenger compartment and the convertible top. Almost reasonable price for this model sold 15,000 copies in Europe in nearly five years, but rare in France.
